India’s first indigenously developed HPV test kits for cervical cancer screening validated

The Department of Biotechnology (DBT), under its Grand Challenges India initiative at BIRAC, has validated India’s first indigenously developed HPV test kits for cervical cancer screening. Developed by Molbio Diagnostics, these kits mark a significant step forward in accessible cancer diagnostics. Molbio’s Truenat® HPV-HR Plus, a chip-based RT-PCR test, enables rapid detection of eight high-risk HPV genotypes linked to over 96% of cervical cancer cases. Validated by AIIMS, NICPR, NIRRCH, and IARC-WHO, the platform is designed to expand screening access in low-resource settings and supports India’s alignment with WHO’s 2030 cervical cancer elimination goals.
