World Hepatitis Day 2025 — What India’s Diagnostics Say About Hepatitis Readiness

  • Opinion Piece

In an interview with ABP Live on World Hepatitis Day 2025, Dr. Ajeet Singh Bhadoria of AIIMS Rishikesh discussed how India’s diagnostic capabilities for Hepatitis B and C have advanced from ELISA-based tests to portable molecular platforms like Truenat. These point-of-care systems now enable rapid, decentralised testing with results in under an hour, improving access in rural and underserved areas. However, he noted persistent gaps—such as uneven usage across states, lack of antenatal screening, poor data integration, and inadequate follow-up care. Dr. Bhadoria emphasized that India must focus on scale, training, and digital health integration to stay on track for hepatitis elimination by 2030.
