The Global Health Security Conference takes place against the backdrop of infectious disease outbreaks that expose critical gaps in decentralized diagnostic access in low-resource settings.
Molbio is validating a new real-time PCR test capable of detecting all three Ebola-causing viruses (Ebola, Sudan, and Bundibugyo) in roughly one hour.
KUALA LUMPUR / NEW DELHI, 9 June 2026 — As global health leaders, policymakers, and industry stakeholders gather in Malaysia for the Global Health Security Conference 2026 (GHS2026), Molbio Diagnostics has called for greater investment in decentralized molecular testing as a critical pillar of outbreak preparedness and response.
The conference comes at a time of heightened concern over emerging infectious disease threats. On 17 May 2026, the World Health Organization declared the Ebola outbreak caused by the Bundibugyo virus a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC), underscoring the ongoing need for rapid detection, surveillance, and response systems that can operate more closely with affected communities.
One of the challenges highlighted by the current outbreak has been the limited availability of decentralized diagnostic solutions capable of detecting the Bundibugyo virus in resource-constrained settings, where early diagnosis is essential for outbreak containment.
To address this need, Molbio has developed a new real-time PCR test capable of detecting all three Ebola-causing viruses—Ebola virus, Sudan virus, and Bundibugyo virus—on its portable Truenat platform and is currently working with relevant stakeholders on the ground to validate it. The test is designed to enable rapid molecular testing closer to the point of care, supporting faster clinical decision-making and public health response.
“The ongoing Ebola emergency reinforces a lesson the global health community has learned repeatedly: preparedness begins with timely diagnosis. Rapid, decentralized, and affordable testing capacity is often the difference between containing an outbreak early and responding after it has spread,” said Dr Kuldeep Singh Sachdeva, President and Chief Medical Officer, Partnerships and Advocacy, Molbio Diagnostics.
As part of GHS2026, Dr. Sachdeva will participate in the panel discussion, “Beyond Funding: The Strategic Role of the Private Sector in Global Health Security,” where he will share lessons from the deployment of the Truenat platform during India’s COVID-19 response. The discussion will explore how private-sector innovation, manufacturing, and last-mile deployment capabilities can contribute to stronger health security systems globally.
Since the pandemic, the Truenat platform has been deployed in more than 85 countries and has continued to expand to support testing across a broad range of infectious diseases, including tuberculosis, HIV, viral hepatitis, and emerging outbreak applications such as Ebola. The platform’s versatility demonstrates how decentralized molecular diagnostics can strengthen surveillance and response capabilities across both endemic and epidemic diseases.
Molbio’s engagement at GHS2026 is also informed by its role on the External Advisory Council of the Pandemic Fund, the world’s first multilateral financing mechanism dedicated exclusively to strengthening pandemic prevention, preparedness, and response capacities, particularly across low- and middle-income countries.
The impact of decentralized diagnostics is already being demonstrated internationally. Through Pandemic Fund-supported initiatives, Truenat systems were deployed across Caribbean nations through the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, helping strengthen regional disease surveillance and testing capacity. The infrastructure established through the programme continues to support preparedness efforts and can be rapidly mobilized during future public health emergencies.
“Pandemic preparedness cannot be built during a crisis—it must be established beforehand through resilient systems, decentralized diagnostic capacity, and sustained investment. As new infectious threats continue to emerge, accessible and versatile molecular testing at the point of need will remain one of the most powerful tools available to public health systems worldwide,” said Sriram Natarajan, CEO, Molbio Diagnostics.
As countries continue to strengthen health security frameworks, Molbio remains committed to advancing accessible molecular diagnostic technologies that bring laboratory-quality testing closer to the point of need and support faster responses to both endemic and emerging infectious disease threats.
